What does COD mean in this service?
COD, or cash on delivery, covers orders where the customer has not paid for the product in advance and settles when the parcel arrives. When creating the order the store states the amount the courier should collect from the customer. That amount is held as its own field on the order and, once the parcel is delivered, is accounted for as money owed to the store under the agreed settlement terms rather than mixed into a single running total.
Do you take a commission on the money collected?
No. Postman takes no commission on money collected from the customer, neither a percentage nor a flat fee. Whatever the courier collects for the product is exactly what the store receives at settlement. The store's only cost is the delivery fee, which is known in advance from the parcel's weight and size. Working on cash on delivery therefore costs a store nothing beyond what a prepaid order costs.
Are product value and delivery fee one amount?
No. They are two independent amounts and are never merged on an order. The product value belongs to the store and is passed to it after being collected from the customer. The delivery fee is the cost of Postman's service and is recorded separately. Each carries its own payment state, so it is always visible whether the product money has been collected and whether the delivery has been paid for. Those two questions never depend on one another.
Who can pay the delivery fee?
Either the customer or the store can pay the delivery fee, and it is decided per order. A store can cover the fee itself and advertise free delivery, or add it to the amount the courier collects at the door. This choice is entirely independent of whether the product itself is prepaid: an order can be paid for in advance and still have its delivery fee collected from the customer on the doorstep.
Where can a store see collected and outstanding amounts?
Partner analytics totals product value and delivery fees separately, each with its paid and outstanding states. A store can see what the courier has already collected from customers, what is due to it at the next settlement, and what remains outstanding across orders still in progress. The figures can be filtered by period and exported, which is what makes them usable inside the store's own bookkeeping rather than only on screen.
